Features

Frond’s feature set is built from the union of Endless Paper, Infinite Zoom Art (Canvas Max / ZoomArt), and InfiniPaint — plus a web-native take on each.

Canvas & rendering

  • Truly infinite zoom — no zoom limit in either direction (2⁵¹² depth levels; see the engine).
  • Infinite pan and two-finger pinch zoom + rotate; trackpad pinch arrives as ctrl+wheel.
  • Vector strokes, crisp at every zoom level — pressure-sensitive pen, pencil, marker, and highlighter.
  • Screen-constant brush size (Endless Paper behavior): zooming in makes your line physically smaller on the canvas.
  • Adaptive grid that responds to the zoom level, with world axes.
  • Stylus support — pressure, hover preview, and automatic eraser detection from the pen’s eraser end (InfiniPaint behavior).
  • Finger-draw toggle: stylus draws / one finger pans / two fingers zoom, or draw with one finger.
  • Canvas rotation via two-finger rotate; reset from the toolbar or right-click menu.

Tools

  • Brushes: pencil, pen, marker, highlighter, each with size, opacity, color, and pressure curves.
  • Eraser with zoom-level modes (Endless Paper’s Saturn/human/bacteria): erase bigger content above your zoom level, content at it, or smaller content below it.
  • Rectangle select and lasso — move, resize (corner handles), duplicate (⌥/Ctrl-drag), delete; copy/paste across zoom levels and documents (content is re-anchored and physically resized for the target depth).
  • Shapes: line, rectangle, ellipse.
  • Fill (paint bucket, F) — click a shape to fill it with the active color, or click inside a closed stroke loop to create a solid fill polygon underneath the outline. Fills support undo/redo, selection move/resize, eraser, and SVG export; multi-stroke enclosures are not detected yet.
  • Vector text with font size.
  • Image insertion (embedded, bounded at 3 MB per image).
  • Eyedropper with stroke hit-testing across nearby zoom levels.
  • Bookmarks — drop a bookmark anywhere (any zoom level) and jump back instantly; bookmarks show their depth (2ⁿ).
  • Layers with visibility, opacity, and blend modes (normal / multiply / screen); erasing is layer-scoped.
  • Saveable color palettes (local; sync planned).
  • Right-click quick menu — palette colors, bookmark-here, reset rotation.
  • Unlimited undo/redo (bounded log, 2000 ops).
  • Keyboard shortcuts for every tool; Tab hides the UI (InfiniPaint).

Documents & data

  • Continuous autosave — local-first in IndexedDB, background cloud sync when signed in; works fully offline.
  • Gallery of canvases with rename/delete; cloud list when signed in.
  • Revisions — every cloud save is a new revision on S3.

Export & sharing

  • PNG of the viewport at any resolution (1×, 4×, …).
  • SVG of the whole canvas — exported as nested vector groups mirroring the zoom tree, so the file stays exact at any depth and opens in any editor.
  • Portable JSON document format (versioned).
  • Zoom video (WebM) — the signature infinite-zoom animation: the camera flies continuously into the canvas while recording (MediaRecorder).
  • Publish as an interactive website — one toggle creates a read-only, infinitely zoomable public view (/view/<token>), no account needed.

Collaboration

Real-time multiplayer (InfiniPaint-style lobbies) is designed but not yet enabled — see Roadmap. The document model, revision protocol, and DynamoDB change-stream hook were built with sync in mind.
